How do I keep my wedding cake pool steps from floating up? ›

We strongly recommend pool ladders and steps be removed from the swimming pool during the off season (winter months). For safety reasons this also applies to pools located in warmer climates. Unsupervised access to the pool must not be allowed.

In order to prevent pool steps from floating, you will need to use 70lbs of sand during the assembly process that will weigh down the steps allowing them to sink to the bottom of the pool and stay there.

A two-person lift — and removal of the fill/drain plugs — usually gets the job done, but if you are left to winterize on your own, a simple siphon kit will help. By siphoning most of the water out of the legs of the ladder or out of the side panels of the pool step it will make it lighter and more buoyant.

Floating steps can be a problem if all the air has NOT been removed from the insides of the step system. Please make sure you add the required amount of sand into the side panels.
